TISCO high-purity stainless steel is used in the world’s largest non-welded integral stainless steel ring forging

On March 12, the world’s largest diameter and heaviest weldless integral stainless steel ring forging made of 316H high-purity stainless steel was successfully developed. It will be used to produce my country’s first fourth-generation nuclear power unit-Fujian Xiapu 600,000 kilowatt fast The core component support ring of the neutron reactor (hereinafter referred to as the fast reactor) demonstration reactor. As the only stainless steel material manufacturer in China that can meet all the technical requirements of this process, TISCO has successfully completed all the tasks of guaranteeing supply.

The fast reactor is the second step in the “three-step” strategic route of my country’s nuclear energy development “thermal reactor-fast reactor-fusion reactor”. It is the preferred reactor type of the world’s fourth-generation advanced nuclear energy system and can greatly increase the resource utilization of nuclear fuel. As the “backbone” of the entire stack container, the giant annular forging has a diameter of 15.6 meters and a weight of 150 tons. It is required to withstand a weight of 7000 tons in structure, withstand high temperatures of 650 degrees, and run continuously for 40 years. In the past, such giant forgings at home and abroad were manufactured by multi-segment billet group welding, and the material structure and performance of the weld seam were weak, which laid a hidden safety hazard for the operation of nuclear power plants. The Institute of Metals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences pioneered the process route of “making big from small”, using 58 high-purity 316H stainless steel continuous casting slabs to superimpose and forge the 100-ton-level original billet required to make the ring, which solved the traditional “making big with big” process of loading steel ingots. Metallurgical defects inherent in the solidification process.

The harsh conditions of use and brand-new processing technology pose unprecedented challenges to the chemical composition and uniformity of the required continuous casting slab. TISCO and the Chinese Academy of Atomic Energy and the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have jointly researched and developed to raise the experiment and production of this research to the highest priority of the company. High temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, steel purity, internal organization uniformity, dimensional accuracy and other indicators have reached a new level. We have mastered the manufacturing technology of 316H stainless steel plates, continuous casting billets, electroslag ingots and other products for key equipment of fast reactors. And has mass production capacity, which strongly supports the successful development of this “world’s best”.
